Studio Co!Lab Talks

The Studio Co!Lab Talks program is put together from opportunities given to our Studio Co!Lab members and creative partners throughout the year or previous year, presented as topics, themes and issues of interest to those with art practices in Regional NSW. The talks are free, one hour and moderated by an Orana Arts team member or guest. Studio Talks are presentations by artists and organisations we work with, hosted by Orana Arts but not facilitated by us. We provide the platform for these talks but we do not set the topics or influence the content of what is discussed.

STUDIO CO!LAB TALK I 2023 RESIDENCY SERIES

8 MAY 2024, 7PM ON ZOOM

IRONBARK ARTS RESIDENCY

Artists in residence and Studio Co!Lab members Tina Pech (Baradine), Jason Richardson (Leeton) and Danja Derkenne (Little Forest)

Three artists from across NSW came together for 5 nights/ 6 days in Stuart Town in October 2023 for the Ironbark Arts Residency, an opportunity we deliver in partnership with the Stuart Town Advancement Association. Coming together for short, intensive periods with people you don’t know can be a daunting process, but there are ways to ensure you, as a creative, get the most from this time. We’ll find out how Tina, Jason and Danja managed their time together and what their residency in Stuart Town has meant in terms of growing their practice.

The Ironbark Arts Residency put Stuart Town on the map for me, introduced a new birdcall and provided opportunities to learn about the creative practices of other artists — both visiting and local. It prompted me to use a circuit bent camera and also led to a number of new poems, photographs and a couple of videos. - Jason Richardson

I chose the residency time to improve my creative documentation and work on an exhibition submission. I also began work on a book inspired by the Ironbark Hotel and collaborative pieces with the other artists. Having concentrated time and space to focus on creativity was a luxury. Meeting other creatives and sharing experiences was the highlight. - Tina Pech

Studio Co!Lab Talks are 1 hour, FREE and open to anyone interested. Just register to get your Zoom link. Registrations after the Zoom has started won’t be admitted.

All talks are recorded, but only some are made available to the public on our Studio Talks page, for a limited time. Studio Co!Lab members have access to all recorded talks via the Members’ Lounge. NOTE: All our Studio Co!Lab Talks on Zoom have closed captioning. Zoom also ensures any actions that can be completed with a mouse within the platform may also be completed with only a keyboard. For more information on the accessibility of Zoom, please see their FAQ.

COMING IN JUNE

We’ll catch up with 3 Studio Co!Lab members about what it means for them to collaborate creatively. Collaboration has been a hot topic for many of our members and we’re keen to continue exploring the different types and ways of collaboration. Our final Studio Co!Lab Quarterly Grant for the year is $2,000 for a collaboration, so its never too early to start thinking about what this could mean to your creative practice. Details to come soon.

Highlights of our 2022
Studio Co!Lab Talks Program.

In 2022, we had 11 Studio Co!Lab events in the form of talks and roundtables—these are more than one artist in conversation on a topic. These events involved artists of all artforms—writers, visual artists and musicians, and arts workers, on everything from collaboration, residencies and storytelling, to creativity and the business of art. From this line-up, 20 of our speakers were artists, the majority of them Studio Co!Lab members talking about how being awarded opportunities impacted their practice, sharing gems of experience along the way. In all, we have almost 11 hours of talks recorded and available to our Studio Co!Lab members in The Lounge (members' section of the website), or on our public Studio Talks page.

Highlights of our 2021
Studio Co!Lab Talks Program.

In a year that was once again turned on its head, we presented a series of talks each quarter that tapped into the issues many regionally based creatives are grappling with in their practices — from how to be a better, more authentic writer, through to managing your time, nurturing creativity, and growing audiences for that creativity. There were 13 Studio Co!Lab Talks and 3 Lounge Series Roundtables hosted between April and December 2021.
