Neon Caves @Springfest

As part of Springfest 2017, local all-female youth group the Galaxy Girls are set to ‘bring the sound down’ with their live ‘Neon Caves’ performance and ‘found sound’ installation at the Wellington RSL’s underground venue on Saturday 23 September.

Through the support of Barnados Australia’s ‘Beyond Barbed Wire’  community Reconnect program, run throughout western NSW, the Galaxy Girlsare a group of seven local girls ranging in age from ten-to-15 years, who have developed their first-ever 2017 Spring Festival performance with creative mentoring and technical guidance from Signal Creative .

Inspired by their close connection with the Wellington region and proximity to the local Wellington Cathedral Cavesand surrounding landscape, the Galaxy Girls will take to the Springfest 2017 stage at the Wellington RSL between 1 -3 pm on Saturday afternoon.

The culmination of twelve weeks working together under the guidance of Signal Creative duo, the Galaxy Girls’ conceived, recorded and compiled an original composition, and now look forward to bringing it to life with a dance and movement performance enhanced with spoken word, vocal sounds and animal ‘voices’.

With cave stalactite inspired neon glowing costumes, immersive stage design and artistic installations, the audience will be transported to a magical world, all evoked by the caves, and enhanced by these talented local girls’ imagination, their connections to the local surrounds, and an appreciation of stimulus provided by Wellington’s animal, bird and insect life, both real and imagined!
