Everybody’s got an opinion about street art. It’s the most polarising form of art on the planet. It can just as easily land you a gig as one of the most feted artist on the planet (see Banksy) as see you chased through the city streets by law enforcement officers (see any other street artist). It has even changed our legislation, making it illegal for youngsters to buy spray paint.
But here is your chance to actually influence what sort of street art is going to dominate a Dubbo alley for the next two years. These are your streets, it’s time for you to take some control. Dubbo Regional Council, Orana Arts Inc. and the WPCC have joined together to provide partially fund for four artists to make their mark on the alley wall. Partial funding? Yes, the rest is up to you. Artists will pitch their ideas to you, you vote for the ones you want the most, the winner get the spoils and you get to call yourself an arts benefactor.
Launched by Orana Arts in 2015, soup sessions are crowd-funding at its finest. Here’s how it works:
- Tickets: $15.00 include a bowl of hot soup, a bread roll + 1 vote.
- Artists have 5 minutes each to pitch their idea to the audience.
- Audience members vote for the project they would like to fund.
- The four artists with the most votes win, get the cash, and the chance to do their thing.
