Orana Arts Secures Significant Funding for Aboriginal Stories in Regional NSW
ORANA ARTS SECURES SIGNIFICANT FUNDING FOR ABORIGINAL STORIES IN REGIONAL NSW
$144,000 has been secured by Orana Arts through a competitive round with Arts NSW to continue with its partnership with Ngarru Mayon Elders Aboriginal Corporation, Moogahlin Performing Arts and Casula Powerhouse to develop opportunities for Aboriginal performing artists within the region through the Staging Stories program.
Staging Stories 2 is a continuation of a ground breaking initiative undertaken by Orana Arts in 2014-15, an intensive performing arts program that works with aspiring Aboriginal playwrights and performers from ages 14 –70.
“This support is crucial so we can develop authentic Aboriginal contemporary theatre, theatre that is developed, created and performed by Aboriginal people.” Alicia Leggett, Executive Officer, Orana Arts. “We are creating opportunities for Aboriginal playwrights and performers to develop and to tell their stories how they want to see them. Orana Arts, with our partners, are building the next generation of Aboriginal playwrights and actors in Regional NSW and putting their stories on the stage in Regional NSW and Western Sydney”
