MusicNSW Regional Coordinator for Orana Arts

Following a search that began in November 2022, five music professionals are joining the MusicNSW team with a remit to deliver development opportunities and work to expand touring circuits across regional NSW. The newly-created roles have been made possible thanks to Create NSW following a landmark four-year funding commitment.

Ali Buckley, Dave Burgener, Kayne Mills, Sam Rees and Sophie Jones, to MusicNSW as the new regional team, to lead regional music development across the state.

Ali Buckley will be the Regional Coordinator for Orana Arts, also working across the Upper Hunter and Mid North Coast regions. She has been working with MusicNSW since 2021 via the regional music officer program for the Mid North Coast. Ali has also managed her own regional arts consultancy for 20 years, developing and producing projects across the commercial and not-for-profit sectors. She was previously Media and Marketing Officer for the Woodford Folk Festival and the Dreaming Festival, and served as assistant to the Executive Director of the Queensland Folk Federation. She founded the Sustainable Living Festival in Armidale and developed the Gumbaynggirr Music Futures program.

The Regional Coordinators have hit the ground running and, will lead MusicNSW's regional development work over the next four years. They will build capacity and relationships between local industry and artists, and will provide on-the-ground support for regional musicians, venues and live music professionals to grow regional touring.

John Graham, NSW Minister for Arts, Night Time Economy and Music, said: “MusicNSW has been leading nationally on regional music development, and the NSW Government is proud to fund these new roles. MusicNSW’s newly appointed regional team will help artists hit the road, build regional music networks and expand NSW’s profile as an ideal destination for regional touring.”

On Wednesday 31 May, the regional team are inviting all NSW regional music industry professionals to come together for a virtual interactive session, to meet the team, talk about live music across the regions and make connections to bring the industry closer and open up career pathways. This digital event is open to artists, venues, agents, media and more, and will feature all five new hires and Managing Director Emily Collins.
