
Music Hub is a programme to give support to music teachers, energise community music making and nurture exceptional musical talent throughout regional New South Wales.
Director of Music Hub Mark Walton is a respected and popular figure in the Australian and New Zealand musical scene and is highly regarded as not only a leading clarinet and saxophone performer, inspiring teacher and charismatic musician but also a world leading authority on Distance Music Education.
Mark is passionate that wherever people live they should be given the opportunity to learn and love music. Mark has been Chair of Woodwind and then Chair of Performance Outreach and Communications at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Head of Classical Music at the West Australian Conservatorium of Music and Director of the Yamaha Music Connect Outreach Programme. Mark now shares his time between running this very important New South Wales Regional Arts Music Hub programme and directing New Zealand’s largest community music school, the Christchurch School of Music. In 2005 Mark was awarded an OAM for his contribution to music education throughout Australia.
The Regional Music Mentoring Program – Music Hub is funded under The Regional Arts Fund (RAF) is an Australian Government initiative which gives all Australians, wherever they live, better access to opportunities to practise and experience the arts.
