Christine McMillan

Christine is an artist and arts educator. She has exhibited in a series of shows at Number 47 Rylstone and in regional galleries including solo shows at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, Western Plains Cultural Centre, New England Regional Art Museum and Bundaberg Art Gallery. She has exhibited at Mount Tomah Botanic Garden and the University of Wollongong Gallery.

She has developed and delivered education programs to support both her exhibitions and exhibitions of others. At National Gallery of Australia she presented the ‘Symmetrical Planting’ model, developed with Dr Margaret Brooks (UNE), which demonstrated Christine working with teachers and students to reveal an artist’s process.

Through artist residencies at Hill End, the Gunnery in Sydney, New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) Armidale, DRAWinternational Caylus France and Indonesia, Christine’s practice has been influenced by contact with other artists, local people, the environment, gallery staff and volunteers. These contacts have lead to the possibility and satisfied her desire for collaboration with other artists and educators. Working with Margaret in Indonesia they developed partnerships between museums, service groups, schools and artists in Indonesia and Australia to create an art program and exhibition celebrating the ‘Subak’ which is the rice culture of Bali. This work will be exhibited at NERAM in 2012.

Christine is Arts and Health Coordinator at Arts OutWest (AOW). She curates exhibitions, develops and manages arts health projects with health workers, artists, clients and educators.
