2MG was launched on July 2nd 1938, with a live broadcast from the Hotel Mudgee (since demolished) that featured performances by local musicians and the official opening by Hon.WF.Dunn MLA. The station was the brainchild of local radio enthusiast and businessman Mr. Harry Milton. It began broadcasting with a 100 watt transmitter, now we use a 5000 watt solid state transmitter. (Note: an early 2MG Transmitter is on display at the Mudgee Museum) Despite many technological advances over the years, 2MG's studios remained in the original building right up until January 1987 when the current building came into use. Ten years later extensions were added allowing for a state of the art digital production suite.
